The Project:

The Queensland Government Department of Natural Resources and Mines are responsible for the rehabilitation, care and maintenance of the world famous and historic Mt Morgan mine near Rockhampton in Queensland. Minetek were engaged to design, manufacture, install and commission a large scale water evaporation system at the abandoned Mt Morgan pit in an effort to manage the water levels, thus reducing the risk of unplanned discharges into the Dee River, removing the potential impact on the local environment.

Details / System Capacity:

Minetek’s experienced team were enlisted to design an evaporation system to evaporate a specific volume of water per day from the Mt Morgan pit. As per Minetek’s internal project evaluation process, all necessary aspects of the project were assessed prior to the presentation of the solution. This involved such steps as site visits, weather modelling, site assessments and installation location assessments. Minetek proposed a three unit evaporator system to be installed to meet the requirements set out in the scope.

The Outcome:

Minetek supplied all aspects of the turnkey system including evaporators, engineering & Design, transformers, pumps, pipework, electrical control centre, cable, commissioning and training.  The Mt Morgan system has been operating now for over 4 years and continues to be an important part of the Mt Morgan mine water management plan.
